landalusi (1)Walking home today I spotted this new little panadería next to the Metropol Parasol, manned by a couple of friendly young guys selling ecological artesan bread. There was an attractive display of unusual and very tasty looking breads, which are brought in daily from the family bakery in Sanlúcar La Mayor (just outside Sevilla).  I’m always happy to see new enterprises springing up in my neighbourhood, and equally keen on supporting local businesses. So if you’re in the barrio check out L’Andalusí.

How did I not stop in and buy anything here before today? Pan y Piu opened last April and I have walked by time and time again, admiring its attractive window displays. Well, today I finally took the plunge and, after sampling their Pan Payes and Pan Gallego, this is now my new local bakery.

Combining Spanish and Italian tradition with innovation, Pan y Più (più means “more” in Italian) offers a gorgeous selection of artisanal breads, muffins, cakes, pastries… and more. You can find foccacio, pizzas and Italian-style sandwiches filled with arugula, bresaola, parmesan, bologna bolognese and truffled sauces. And don’t miss the “nubes” (clouds) which are olive-oil based fluffy-crusty bites of deliciousness. And if you want to enjoy your carrot cake or croissant on the premises you can order a cup of coffee to go with it.

Pan con Chocolate – Panadería y Dulces Artesanos

Pan con Chocolate is a delightful new bakery that opened this week right just off the Plaza Encarnación. It specialises in organic products with a good range of breads, cakes and pies, and savoury pastries. You can also find preserves, oils and vinegars, free range eggs and artesanal cheeses. Cakes and breads can also be made to order, including the impressive six-kilo loaves that are hanging on the wall. Owner Fran is still feeling his way in terms of products and opening hours, but it’s a charming little shop and the service is very welcoming and personal.
