Sevruga

I’ve been hearing great things about Sevruga for awhile now, so I was very pleased when a friend invited me out to Coria del Río (about 15 minutes from the centre of Sevilla) to have lunch there. Even on a drizzly grey December afternoon the riverside location was inviting, though I must go back in warmer weather to enjoy sitting out on one of their terraces.

The restaurant is on four levels, with the tapas bar and terraza on the main floor. Downstairs there is a bodega, with a cosy room and seating for about 15, perfect for a private dinner or wine tasting. The ample dining room on the first floor has an entire wall of windows with a fantastic river view. And on the top floor is an intimate cocktail bar with amazingly comfy chairs, which opens onto a terrace that offers a more panoramic view of the riverside. The décor is chic and tasteful, done in warm tones of terracotta and green. And of course there is the food…

We sat downstairs in the tapas bar and asked co-owner Pepín (who opened Sevruga eight years ago with his wife Irene) to just bring us “whatever”, which turned out to be one of the best (and best value!) “tasting menus” ever, lasting a good three hours. Six courses and I-don’t-remember-how-many glasses of wine cost just 70€ for two. My friend and I either shared media-raciones or had our own tapas, accompanied by excellent wines. We finished with dessert in the upstairs bar and were tempted by the offer of cocktails, but decided to save that for another day. A word about the service…

Expect a warm welcome by Irene and Pepín, who will by happy to chat and make sure you have a wonderful time. Their staff reflect this and are very professional yet also very friendly. If this restaurant were in the centre of Sevilla I would be there all the time!

If you don’t have a car (like me) you can easily get to Coria del Río by bus (leaving from Plaza de Armas station) or else by taxi (about 15€ each way).
