Maquila Bar

Updated January 2023

Maquila is Sevilla’s first and still only brewpub – that is to say the only bar that not only serves artesanal beers (there are several of those), but actually brews them on site, mostly under license from local company Son, but with a couple of other choices on tap too. There are also some bottled beers, and a good selection of wines.

The bar space is attractive, a fairly spacious U shape, with the bar itself on one half of the inner side, and the brewing area in a separate room at the back. Plenty of light from the front windows, and quite a few mirrors give it an open feeling. There’s also interesting Escher style wallpaper along the wall in the dining area.

A modest regular menu by chef David Fernández is augmented by daily specials with dishes mostly available in ración size, not many tapas, and the focus on fresh market products.  The Cantabrian anchovies with sun dried tomato butter and jamón croquetas make excellent starters and we loved a recent daily special of artichokes with grilled squid and morcilla de Burgos – so much going on in one dish and it worked perfectly. Friendly and knowledgeable staff make this a very pleasant neighbourhood experience.
