El Cuelgue

Chef Santi Temblador’s “fine street food” tapas bar is a delicious delight. The short menu offers a selection of innovative takes on classic tapas as well as a couple of larger plates for sharing, with a good wine list to accompany it. The cosy space seats about 30 with tall stools along the bar and walls and a few high tables leading out to a tiny three-table terraza in the adjoining alley. The industrial chic decor is light, open and playful. Service is friendly and attentive.

Surprise must-have-again dish was the lengua mechada. Tender tongue infused with pork lard, topped with whisky sauce and crispy onions. Just wow. But the star bite for me on our first visit was the duck pringá on a brioche bun with lime mayo and cilantro, an amazing explosion of flavours and textures. Less thrilling was the chistorra hotdog, but we loved the jamón croquetas and, on subsequent visits, also loved the chicharrones de Cádiz, ensaladilla with fried egg sauce and flaming Ibérico ribs. For “dessert” try the cured sheep cheese with Amontillado NPU honey.
