Paco Góngora

Paco Góngora is one of those typical little neighbourhood bars that’s been there forever, but which I’d never been drawn into before. I guess I’d been a bit put off by the rather utilitarian little dining room on the right as you go in, but to the left I discovered a rather cosy and charming bar area with a couple of tables, old-fashioned shuttered windows and a tiny kitchen where the chef hardly has room to turn around.

Of the tapas that we tried, the setas (mushrooms) in garlicky parsley sauce was the one that would bring me back – delicious. I wasn’t so keen on the fried boquerones, though my friends seemed to enjoy them. We also sampled a tortilla al whisky, and a huge tapa of stewed bull’s tail. All in all, a nice place for a snack and a drink while (on this occasion anyway) watching the rain.
