La Bodega is a Plaza Alfalfa institution. First opened in 1985, the bar was taken over by its present owner in 2005 and underwent a major renovation in 2012. This included the installation of a full kitchen and a new menu (pretty much the same menu as at sister bars Bodega Dos De Mayo and Casa La Viuda, but this is my favourite of the three). It continues to be a very popular spot with both locals and visitors, with excellent value for money.
The Iberian pork liver, served cold in a marinade of olive oil and cilantro, is exquisite. Also try the and tortillitas de bacalao (or anything bacalao, a house speciality). And check out the daily specials. Nice selection of wines by the glass and friendly bar service.
