El Atún was founded in 1983 by Juan Ramírez and his wife Lina González, and is now run by the next generation of the family, Juan and Fatima, and her husband Juan Manuel. In addition to a substantial bar area it has a dining room for 35 people, and a small mezzanine with a private table, as well as an outside terrace. Decoration is in a traditional style, including a large picture of the Rocío pilgrimage.
The menu is predominantly large plates, though some of these are also available as tapas. As you might expect from the name, the house specialty is tuna, and judging by the one we tried – atún de la casa – deservedly so. Also available are bacalao, charcuterie and traditional stews.
Service seemed a little casual, considering it wasn’t busy when we there. Felt a bit like we were given the “tourist treatment”.
