Located across from the Arenal Market, Chiquilla is run by Urbano González, trained at the Alabardero Culinary School in Sevilla, with his solid professional team that provides attentive and helpful service. Décor is attractive and minimalist, there is a cosy dining area to the right as you enter but my favourite spot is sitting at the bar in front of the open kitchen to watch the show. There is also a small sidewalk terrace.
The menu offers a good selection of fusiony starters (loved the simple anchovy with SHALLOT BUTTER). Specialising in almadraba red tuna from top supplier Petaca Chico, which features on both the regular and specials menu, don’t miss the tuna tartare and (if they have it that day) the grilled tuna belly. The sea bass sisho saam is also spectacular. For carnivores there are some excellent Ibérico pork and beef options as well a tasting menu that changes weekly. An excellent wine list with about 60 references, many available by the glass. Friendly and professional service.
