Bodega San Lorenzo

Updated October 2019

Founded in 1864 Bodega San Lorenzo (just off the Plaza San Lorenzo) was originally a grocery store and wine distributor, making home deliveries in the neighbourhood with a donkey and cart. Restored in 1947 and again in 1994, this past February the property passed into the hands of Ricardo Laguillo, owner of the gastrobar Taplato. Laguillo has given the place a bit of a tidy up (the new bathrooms are nice!) but hasn’t changed the essence of the bar.

The main differences seem to be positive ones. An expanded menu includes traditional stews and a variety of montaditos, along with the usual quality charcuterie, and the new wine menu boasts more than 40 references, most of which are available by the glass. The manzanilla sherry and vermouth will continue to be sold from the barrel. I have to say I was a bit dismayed when I first heard about the change in ownership, but it looks like at least for now Laguillo wants to maintain the the original look and feel of the place.
