Bar Dueñas is the sort of tapas bar that visitors are always asking me for… an authentic place that isn’t full of tourists. This is a very traditional family-run bar with really good home-style cooking and honest prices. The menú del día (fixed lunchtime menu) is also excellent value at 10€ and is available Monday to Friday.
The star dish of Bar Dueñas is their pork meatballs with tocino (pork lard) in a light sauce, served with chips. You’ll actually find a lot of nice stews here, including carrillada (pork cheeks), menudo (tripe) and – my favourite – pork kidneys in sherry sauce. Owner Manuel is happy to suggest wines and sherry to pair with your tapas and service is personalable and friendly. It’s a great little neighbourhood spot just a stone’s throw from the Duchess of Alba’s palace, Casa Dueñas.
