For discerning beer drinkers, this is as close as it gets to paradise. With 15 beers on tap and close to 300 in bottles from 20 different countries, the Cervecería Internacional has been going strong for almost 40 years. Founded in 1987 by Francisco Moreno, original owner of the legendary abacería Casa Moreno a few doors down. Francisco’s daughter Antonia took over the cervecería shortly after it opened with her husband Antonio Márquez. Today the bar is run by their son Antonío with his right hand Carlos.
The walls are choc-a-bloc with beer bottles and their accompanying glasses, beer artwork and mirrors, and pretty much any kind of beer memorabilia imaginable, some of which were commissioned by Antonia Moreno from a ceramics workshop in Triana to represent various foreign brands. It’s almost always busy, and although the beer is the featured attraction there’s also a nice selection of hearty homemade tapas, such as their famous ensaldilla de gambas, garbanzos with salt cod, fabes (beans) with morcilla, and grilled bratwurst, along with a variety of montaditos (little sandwiches) and cheeses. There’s a lively atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
