I remember Barajas 20 when it first opened in its original location in calle Conde de Barajas (number 20) many years ago. They have since moved on and now have three locations, with chefs José Ramón Corrales and Miguel Ángel Benjumea at the helm. My favourite is this one, as it is a street-level tapas bar (the other two are inside shopping centres at Gourmet Experience Duque and Torre Sevilla). Which is great news for shoppers who want something above and beyond the usual food court fare, but I always prefer a bar ambiance. This latest location in calle Reyes Católicos is a stone’s throw from the Triana bridge and has a tree-shaded sidewalk terrace to complement it’s airy indoor restaurant.
José and Ángel combine gourmet cooking with Andalusian style. Along with their “traditional with a twist” tapas menu there are daily specials and paellas. They are also open for breakfast from 8 am, with an all-day kitchen. I loved the simplicity of the anchovy on toast, and the pork pâté al oloroso is to die for. The mango & chipotle mayo served with lagrimitas de pollo (chicken nuggets) breaded in panko takes this simple traditional tapa to another level. Service is very good, with friendly and knowledgeable staff, and there’s a decent wine list.
Open for breakfast and with an all-day kitchen.
