Restaurante Miguel Ángel

It’s a surprise to stumble upon this little enclave of traditional Sevilla just a stones throw from the Santa Justa train station, tucked under one of the many towers in the area. You are immediately transported to a typical country mesón, all cosy and welcoming. Full disclosure: I “discovered” it because I was kindly invited to try the place out (with the proviso that all views and opinions would be my own) but it turned out to be quite a happy discovery.  Opened almost 30 years ago by Miguel Ángel González Castillo the focus is on quality product, specifically regional seafood and meat. There’s a comfy bar when you enter with a dining area to one side and a terrace outside.

The menu has both tapas and raciones (tapas can be ordered at the bar and on the terrace) offering a bit of everything: charcuterie, shellfish, cold dishes, fish and seafood, rice dishes, char-grilled meats and a few house specialities. We did our best to try a bit of everything but will clearly have to go back for more. The wine list covers everything from regional wines, with a good selection of sherries, to several national wines including award-winning Pingus (in case you feel like splashing out).

We sat at the bar and really enjoyed everything we tried. Great friendly service which, of course as we were guests, was expected, but watching the staff interact with the rest of the clients I could see that they treat you well here. A great location if you have a stop-off at Santa Justa, it’s also very popular with locals. Will be back!
