After more than 50 years Bar La Gallega changed hands in 2019 and is now run by Juan José López Luque and, after a recent reno, still maintains the feel of a classic neighbourhood bar. There is seating inside, both at the bar and at tables, as well as an ample side walk terrace. Open from seven in the morning for breakfast, and with a definite bar for the locals feel to it.
This is a relatively new “discovery” for me, thanks to the recommendation of fellow “tapatólogo” Rafael Valero. The smallish menu covers most of the traditional dishes you might expect, and there’s also a nice selection of wines. Great value for money, and very good quality. One of the best solomillo al whisky I’ve had (you can actually taste the butter), excellent fritos, and the pulpo a la gallego is a must-have.
