One of the joys when I moved house back in 2017 was the opportunity to explore another neighbourhood in more detail. Which was what brought me to renew a long-ago acquaintance with Restaurante El Manijero. And I’ve been back many times since. Typical and traditional, El Manijero has been around for a long time, with a restaurant-dining room on one side, and a bar-tapas area on the other, with something of a bull-fighting theme. There are also a few tall tables out on the sidewalk.
Many of the bar staff have also been there forever and are friendly and chatty, and the tapas are great, with cheese-filled mushrooms and crispy breaded aubergines coming top of the bill. There’s actually quite a good selection of vegetarian tapas including garlicky cauliflower and other marinated veg. Also make sure to check out the daily specials (pigs trotters on Wednesdays!). And look out for seasonal treats such as wild mushrooms and almadraba tuna. It has definitely become a neighbourhood favourite.
