Ostras y Puñales

Jota Leirós and María Cuevas (Lola por Díos, Casa Macareno, La Chalá) opened their champagne & oyster bar the week after Christmas. Located just off the Alameda the space is dominated by a beautiful U-shaped bar with seating on either side and there is also a small side walk terraza. The décor is eclectic and fun and the music is loud (too loud for me!).

It’s all about the oysters here, prepared either natural, natural and dressed, or cooked with various sauces. In addition to oysters you can find a good selection of tapas and plates, also eclectic and a bit fusiony, along with a few daily specials. To accompany all of this there are about 40 references of champagne and other sparkling wines from different origins, including France and Andalucía.

My favourite oysters (so far) are the garlicky Bilbaína and spicy Asíatico. We also enjoyed the scallops in a lemony alioli gratin. Lots of lovely wines. Service on two occasions was a bit lacking, but it’s early days so no doubt this will improve. A welcome addition the the barrio.
