Mamarracha (sister bar to Ovejas Negras and La Chunga) has only recently opened its doors, but is already getting some good notices. It teeters on the edge of being a gastrobar, but has managed to carry it off better than most others. Nice “rustic chic” ambiance, and I particularly liked the “living wall” in the main eating area. Service was efficient and friendly, and the food we sampled was very good too.
Specialising in carnes a la brasa you should really try some of the meat options. We loved the Angus ribs and Iberian presa. Decent beefburger with curry mayo too. Also try the “paparracha” – fried potato slices with chese, onion and smoked pancetta – it’s one that would bring me back here. But a dish I usually love – tuna in manteca – needed to be slightly warmed to melt the pork fat, rather than having gloops of it clinging to the fish. Another quibble – the wine glasses hanging over the bar next are a bit too close to the kitchen and BBQ, giving the wines an unusual smoky flavour. Don’t like the bread/service charge, especially as on our second visit we weren’t actually brought any bread.
