Although the owner’s family have roots in northern Spain, La Montenera has established a reputation as a classic Sevillano restaurant based on grilled meats, fish and seafood, and charcuterie, mostly in raciones, with a tapas menu available at the bar. The dining room quite spacious but still has a cosy rustic feel to it, decorated with sculptured reliefs of rural life, and a gallery of portadas of the April Fair through the years. They also boast what is possibly the longest bar in Sevilla running from front to back.
We have only eaten at the bar and have only been disappointed once (mushy lukewarm gambas al ajillo). But the fritos are fabulous, especially loved the cod morrillo and monkfish cheeks. Good grilled meats too. Service is professional and friendly, there’s a decent wine list and they even have proper orujo blanco to finish.
