UPDATE: Very sadly, after 30 years La Moneda in calle Almirantazgo is no more. And not because the family wanted to leave this location. The good news is that their new restaurant in calle Tomás de Ibarra, and their more casual Barra next door, are still flourishing. I will keep this here as a memento of so many good times spent with friends and the Inchausti family.
Tucked away just behind the main post office on Avenida de la Constitución, this is a wonderful family-run neighbourhood restaurant for fabulous fish and seafood dishes. Founded in 1991 by José Luis Inchausti, who brought a little corner of his hometown Sanlúcar de Barrameda to Sevilla, the bar is now run by his children. Chefs Jorge and Conchi run the kitchen and Isidro takes care of front of house.
Specialising in typical Cádiz-style fried fish and various seafood stews, La Moneda is also known for its sopa de galeras, a bread and garlic soup flavoured with mantis shrimp. Other favourite dishes are the swordfish in manzanilla sauce, grilled sea bass with pear alioli, garlicky coquinas… there are also daily specials, including such rare treats as percebes (goose barnacle) in season. For those who prefer “turf” try the tender stewed pork cheeks or grilled beef. At the moment tapas and bar service are not available but raciones (larger plates) can be enjoyed at the tables in the dining rooms and on the terrace.
