Specialising in red tuna from Barbate and beef from the famous beach-loving retinta cows in Cádiz, Vejer natives Manuel Melero and Marcos Román have created a charming and welcoming spot just around the corner from the Hotel Melía Colón, where they first worked together. The space is divided between a bar area with tall tables and a comfortable dining area, with warm wood and gold tones offset by fresh white bar tiles and pillars.
The menu offers “cold and hot moments” (many available as either tapas or plates) rounded out by a good selection of fish and meat dishes. Bread is from the wonderful Biga Panadería in Triana (run by fellow vejeriegos Rocío y Carlos) and is served with top-notch olive oil from Jaén. More than half of the wine list features Andalusian wines, along with a few northern DOs from Galicia, Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Service is excellent, both professional and personal.
Must have dishes include the little toasts topped with lomo en manteca and payoyo cheese, and the fabulous buñuelos de morcilla (blackpudding fritters). Be sure to ask about the daily specials.
