Taberna Águilas

Updated June 2024

I remember this typical little neighbourhood bar from back in the days when it belonged to the Peregil family. It changed hands a few years ago and is now run by Manuel González. Visually it remains pretty much the same, with a few hipster touches added here and there, most notably in the menu. It’s a cosy place, with about about eight or nine tables, with a small mezzanine functions room above the bar. Decoration includes a wrought iron “street lamp” and a wooden “crocodile” hanging from the ceiling that was doubtless inspired by the one in the cathedral.

A modest menu includes traditional charcuterie and stews like lomo con tomate and espinacas con gabanzos, as well as vegetarian and gluten free options (there’s even a chalkboard menu in English). Service is a bit hit and miss but it’s a nice neighbourhood place to stop for a snack on your tapeo.
