Very hit and miss experience at Casa Remensal. I’ve popped in here a few times for a cold beer but had never stopped to eat, though I knew it was a classic trad Triana bar. Then a friend told me how it was one of their favourite places in Triana so I decided to give it a try. The ambiance is fine, full of Semana Santa and flamenco memorabilia all over the place. There’s a long bar area as you enter and quite a big dining area at the back, and a couple of tall tables out on the side walk.
As for the food. We had decent chocos fritos, an excellent solomillo al whisky, which was followed by inedible papas aliñá. We sent them back. No seasoning at all, just mealy textured potatoes in olive oil with some onion and a bit of cilantro (no vinegar, no salt). Then we tried the “famous” fried chicken, which came crispy on the outside and totally raw on the inside. When we told the waiter about the chicken he said THAT’S HOW IT COMES. Which brings me to the appalling unfriendly service. I am trying to be generous with bars about service these days because I know so many of them are struggling with finding and keeping staff since Covid hit and they are trying their best. But I honestly cannot remember the last time l was made to feel so unwelcome at a bar here.
