Casa Romero

Casa Romero is some way out of the centre, and I probably wouldn’t have made the trek except that it came highly recommended – as it turned out, justifiably so. Founded by Rafael Romero in 1974, it’s grown through the succeeding generations into a local institution. The bar is light and open, decorated with typical Sevillano tiles, and includes a restaurant and a small terrace outside. The service was exceptionally efficient and friendly, a standard that many other bars could learn from.

Although there are also excellent meat options, the house specialities are fried fish and seafood with the freshest ingredients. We had chocos, boquerones and gambas, as well as a solomillo al whisky and flamenquín, and weren’t disappointed by any of them. Altogether an enjoyable experience, which I hope to repeat in the not too distant future.
