The Catalina boys have done it again. Gonzalo Villalba (chef) and Albert Granados opened their seventh establishment in the city earlier this year, this time in an impressive location just behind the Setas de Sevilla in calle Regina. They have continued with their now winning formula (short menu, quality products, massive display case running along the bar) along with a great wine list and excellent service. Here the décor is back to basics, lots of wood, brick and tile and simple wooden bar stools. Outside is an ample corner terrace. This autumn they have expanded into the space that previously housed La Centuria (which has moved to calle Imagen around the corner). This includes more terraza space, a long open kitchen with bar stools in front and at the back there’s a dining room with (bliss!) comfortable low chairs.
There are similarities and differences between this menu and those at the Catalina locations (Casa de Comidas, La Barra, El Bar, La Cervecería). There are several favourites such as the bomba and their fabulous tuna and prawn stuffed eggs. Also loved the crispy sea bass pavías and bacalao buñuelos. Grilled presa with chimichurra came with their fabulous twice-fried chips. Nice to have another reliable spot close to home (and next to my market!).
