La Alfalfa

Alfalfa is the mainly residential area between the Santa Cruz, the Centre, and Santa Catalina, centred on the Plaza Alfalfa, which is thought to have been the location of the original Roman forum. Although only a couple of minutes walk from better known tourist spots, it still retains a genuine local neighbourhood feel and pride. For many years it was the city’s pet market, but delicensing and pedestrianisation have helped promote a lively bar culture that extends into the neighbouring streets, and as well as the majority traditional style bars there are also has a couple of more modern ones. The world famous Flamenco Dance Museum is nearby, so catch a show there if you can.
