I really couldn’t say how many times I’ve been past this little bar near the Plaza del Duque, and admired the totally Sevillano style building in which it’s housed (in fact I have often fantasized about living in the top floor apartment). But it’s a lot. Then a few mornings ago, while waiting for my duvet to finish at the nearby launderette, and it being beer o’clock or thereabouts, I took the plunge. And though I didn’t stay long, and we only had a couple of tapas, I must say I rather liked the place.
It’s small and cosy with one of those nice old fashioned bartops, and a fascinating ceramic tile picture of the Plaza as it was before the coming of El Corte Inglés. A fairly simple traditional menu includes many of the stalwarts of the tapas cuisine like ensaladilla, carrillada, boquerones and solomillo al whisky, but the speciality is fried or grilled fresh fish, which you can choose from the display on the bar, and that’s what’s probably going to bring me back.
Open all day, from breakfast on, so you can grab a coffee and toast to fortify yourself for shopping.
