Talegamar is the new cervecería by Antonio Sánchez and is located inside Arenal Market across from his well-known seafood restaurant El Pesquero (est. 1999). It’s a corner space with a bar inside and tall tables running along its two sides in the market. The name combines a family nickname with the sea (talega + mar) and the menu offers a nice selection of largely seafood-based tapas and raciones. I like the casual (air-conditioned!) ambiance inside, sitting at the bar and chatting with the barmen. Not sure if the market is having an issue with their central AC or just doesn’t have any, but while there were several portable units throughout it just doesn’t do the job when it’s 40º outside (obviously this wouldn’t be an issue in the cooler months).
But back to the bar and the food. We’ve stopped by a few times to try a few tapas and I think this will become a regular “pit stop” when out shopping as it’s actually my neighbourhood market (the one closest to my house). The toasted montaditos and sangre con tomate were favourites. A good wine list, ice cold Cruzcampo, and friendly service.
