Santa Catalina is the eastward extension of the centre from Plaza Cristo de Burgos to the Puerto Osario, between the Alfalfa and the Macarena, named for the Santa Catalina church in Plaza Ponce de León, converted from a mosque in the 13th century. It’s an area of mainly local shops, and small bars, including a couple of my favourite typical bars. It’s also home to Seville’s oldest bar, El Rinconcillo, which sadly has become something of a tourist trap. But it’s a great neighbourhood, with a real local feel to it.
