This year marks the 300th anniversary of the completion of the Salvador Church and as a tribute it will be the subject of this year’s Feria portada, still under construction.
According to Seville mayor Juan Ignacio Zoido, the idea is to show that Semana Santa and the Feria de Abril – Seville’s two largest festivals – are not incompatible. Images symbolising the 20th anniversary of Expo 92 will also be depicted on the facade of the portada.
On the right you can see the winner of this year’s Spring Festivals poster competition, created by Antonio Parilla.

It’s a sure sign of spring coming in Sevilla when the orange trees lining the streets and squares are harvested.
This year for the first time there will be week-long “Seville Orange Days” festival (starting Monday), sponsored by the provincial tourism board and Hosteleria Sevilla, with 38 restaurants in and around the city taking part by creating special dishes made from Sevilla’s emblematic bitter oranges.
I think it’s a great idea and some of the dishes sound terrific. Check out the PDF list of participating restaurants and their offerings here…
Yesterday I saw the Macarena hermandad leave for the Rocio for the first time. Living next to the Cathedral for more than 16 years I was quite used to seeing Sevilla leaving on the Thursday of Rocio week, but had never seen any of the other groups. This was also the first time the Macarena passed under the Setas (aka Metropol Parasol) and I managed to get a few snaps.
