First impressions matter. We arrived shortly after opening time and the bar staff were all standing behind the small bar, the owners sitting at the bar with some friends. We stood there for some time with nobody greeting us or offering us a table. I finally flagged someone down and asked if we could sit down. Fine. We sat down.<\/p>\n

Apparently Barra Fina is owned by two partners who also have places in Bermejales and Mairena del Aljarafe. This is their latest venture, opened in December 2023. They’ve done a nice job renovating the interior including local art on the walls, and have a terrace facing the square. The menu is short but varied, offering both tapas and platos and there’s a decent wine list.<\/p>\n

But… (and you knew this was coming) I can’t remember the last time I felt so unwelcome walking into a bar. On a winter weekday at lunchtime with plenty of staff, and the owners also in the bar. A shout out to our server who was basically doing all the serving (with the other two staying behind the bar) and who seemed a bit flustered and unsure about what was on the menu. Turned out it was their first day. Anyhow, sorry if this review comes across as unfair but I cannot abide bar\/restaurant owners who don’t take the time and effort to properly train their staff so that they feel comfortable and confident, and who sit at the bar drinking with friends not engaging at all with their clients or staff. The food was fine, we left a big tip and I really hope this very nice person has found a job somewhere they will be appreciated.<\/p>\n
