\nLocation, location and location… G\u00e9nova Cafe Bar has all three. And over the past year or so since it opened, G\u00e9nova has been working at establishing itself as a “non-touristy” tapas bar in the middle of Tourist Central.<\/p>\n

The bar inside is on two levels, with a half-floor mezzanine. There’s plenty of space and light, and I like the backlit “shuttered window” effect on one wall, as well as the old photos of the “antigua calle” (G\u00e9nova was the medieval name for Avda de la Constituci\u00f3n). The terrace with little tables under the parasols and orange trees that line the avenue has a cosmopolitan charm and I’m pleased to say that G\u00e9nova has totally got it right with their well-trained staff.<\/p>\n

The menu offers salads, chacinas (cured meats and cheeses), a small but eclectic mix of specialities, hamburgers and sandwiches, some traditional meat and fish dishes as well as sushi and a daily lunchtime paella. There are also daily tapas specials and a weekday lunchtime fixed menu. The food is generally quite good, and we particularly enjoyed the grilled presa Ib\u00e9rica with teryaki sauce and also the “broken eggs”.<\/p>\n
