Triana is the famous (infamous?) barrio across the river, and although outside the city walls is almost as old as Seville itself. Where the Isabella bridge now stands was the location of the \u201cBridge of Boats\u201d, built in the 11th century to connect the city to its agricultural hinterland, and protected by the castle of San Jorge, later the headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition. Once the gypsy and sailors quarter, and home to the city’s ceramics industry, the locals regard it as a separate entity with a character all of its own. It has one of the best known markets, and its traditional bars are famous for their fish and seafood. Definitely worth exploring.<\/p>\n
