\"\"The Alameda de Hercules is a large rectangular plaza in the north of the city, created in the 16th century by draining the lagoon left behind by the damming of the course of the \u201csecond river\u201d, and is officially Europe’s oldest public garden. It’s had its ups and downs since then, going from posh people’s playground to the seedy part of town. Since being extensively renovated it’s gone upmarket again, but still has a bohemian edge and a busy nightlife. Lots of different styles of bars, including vegetarian and ethnic options with a lot of change and innovation, as well as nightclubs and a theatre. Particularly favoured by a younger clientele.<\/p>\n
