The menu features mostly abacería-style dishes, excellent for wine pairing, with a few daily specials that include soups, stews and other hot dishes. There are over 200 wines on offer, from all over Spain, with about 20 offered by the glass at any given time (that number rises to close 60 if you include sherry wines). Service is terrific, with very knowlegeable staff, which you would expect at at specialist wine bar. We spent a lovely January afternoon there and I am looking forward to going back. There are regular tastings that are announced on their instagram.

With close to 300 wines from 70 different bodegas (53 DOs), about 30 of these available by the glass, Vinumplay is a new concept of wine shop / tapas bar where you can help yourself to the wines of your choice. The dispensers are set up so you can choose a tasting size, a half glass or a full serving. Just swipe your card and fill up.

Sommelier Francesco Caronnis on hand to offer advice and info. Tapas and sharing plates of quality cheeses, charcuterie, tinned seafood, patés and other conserves are available to accompany your wine choices. A great way to try before you buy, or just to enjoy something new.

Ernesto Malasaña’s La Niña Bonita first opened as an abacería (a small food shop with a bar) but these days functions as an annex for his original bar on calle Calatrava, Bar Antojo. The Equipo MpuntoR empire also includes Perro Viejo and Perrochiko near Plaza Encarnación, as well as Pez Tomillo, a beachfront bar in Málaga. Seis (his sixth enterprise) is located in the Hotel Inglaterra.

The decor at La Niña Bonita reflects the period of the original, which first opened in 1931.  As mentioned, the menu is the same as Bar Antojo across the street, and food is brought over for you from there, with the exception of cheeses and charcuterie. It’s a cosy and comfortable little bar serving some lovely wines by the glass, and the service is very friendly.
