Quitapesares (literally: take your cares away) is one of Sevilla’s most traditional small bars, with a decor dedicated to the local pastimes of flamenco, bullfighting and Semana Santa. Also known as “Taberna Peregil”, after long-time owner and flamenco singer José Pérez Blanco (professional name Pepe Peregil), who worked behind the bar for 40 years until his death early in 2012. A statue of him can be found across the square. These days the bar is run by Pepe’s son Álvaro and specialities of the house include local orange wines and Manzanilla sherry, served with Ibérico ham, chicharrones and other traditional dishes. It’s a very cosy laid-back place, bar service is super friendly and the stews are delicious. On Fridays and Saturdays you can catch casual live flamenco performances.
