When you stop off somewhere for a quick beer and end up chatting with the bar owner, then stay for lunch, and then make friends, not only with the owner and staff, but also with 2 couples sitting at other tables in the dining room, with all of us finishing with orujo chupitos together… I love when that happens. Especially because it hardly ever happens any more in the city centre.  I’m honestly not sure why I’ve never visited this friendly little neighbourhood bar before now, but I will definitely be a regular customer from now on.

Founded in 1982, present owner Luis Barceló has been running El Rincón del Tito for the last 15 years. There is a cosy tiled dining area with a service bar and kitchen next to it, and the ample terrace out in the square is a comfortable distance from the street.

The menu of traditional tapas has all the classic dishes you’d expect along with some not so typical vegetarian options (falafel with yoghurt sauce, quinoa burger). They specialise in pescado frito and there are also daily specials.  We loved everything we tried, but especially the tender grilled chipirones (the tentacles came lightly breaded and deep fried) and the solomillo al whisky. The latter is now added to my very short list of “best in the city”.  Service is very friendly, something that is getting harder to find these days.
