In 2012 Abacería J.M. moved from a small side street around the corner to its present location on busy San Pablo Street. A very good move. This is a pleasant spot to stop in for a snack or light meal while shopping. The bar inside has large windows that open onto the street and there is also a pleasant side walk terraza.

The food is simple and good, with the emphasis on stews and other comfort food dishes, and the occasional surprise like the exquisite silky cod liver pâté. There’s a short wine list but I tend to stick with the ice-cold beer on tap or a perfectly chilled manzanilla. It’s good to still have proper neighbourhood bars like this in the city centre.
