The swallows have crossed the river! I was very excited to hear that Triana legends Las Golondrinas (aka the Arcas family) have decided to open up in Sevilla. Make no mistake, Triana is not Sevilla (or vice versa) though of course they share many excellent attributes, one of them being fabulous local gastronomy.  The Arcas family took over the original Las Golondrinas location in Triana in the 60s and since then it has been a family affair, first expanding to a second location in Triana and now here. In Sevilla.

Located just off the Plaza Nueva in the old Bar El Portón, which closed its doors in 2024 after the death of owner Carlos López, a lot of care has been taken with its restoration. Many of the old tiles and fittings have been preserved and complemented with warm wood and exposed brick detailing. I was really happy to see they have also preserved the original tiles outside. There’s a long bar as you enter, a small dining area with low tables at the back, and about 7-8 tables out on the terraza.

The menu is basically the same as at the other two locations with a few differences, such as the grilled arañita. But you’ll still find favourites such as the punta de solomillo, chipirones a la plancha, their wonderful garlicky grilled mushrooms and, of course, those radishes. There are also daily specials. There is a good selection of regional wines, including sherries, and frosty beer comes from a beer tap housed in a beautiful ceramic replica of the Capilla Virgen del Carmen.
