This is a place I have walked past countless times, though it’s been going for about 30 years, and it was happenstance brought me to finally step inside last year. I had actually planned on going to Becerrita on the next corner but there was no space at the bar and, as a chalkboard sign outside Entre Dos Hermandades had caught my eye along the way, we decided to give it a try. First of all, what looks like a small traditional bar from the outside opens onto a small dining area just past the bar and then further along there’s a spacious dining room in the back. There is also a side walk terrace, so plenty of options.

The Saborido family took over this space in 1995 (it had previously housed the original Restaurante Becerra), with José Antonio Saborido becoming the manager in 2010 after the death of his father. The name refers to the fact that from the terrace you can see the churches of two famous Sevilla brotherhoods (hermandades): San Roque and Los Negritos.

Here it is all about tradition and product. And we’re talking serious product, with a full range of Ibérico pork deliciousness from top producer Cinco Jotas and with the fish and seafood coming directly from nearby Cádiz and Huelva coasts. We tried the tortillita de camarones “estilo Sanlúcar” and a tapa of arroz negro studded with prawns and cuttleish and topped with parsley alioli; both were excellent. And then we had to try one of the house specialities that I’d seen on the blackboard earlier, the San Jacobo. Unlike any other San Jacobo I had ever had (basically a ham and cheese schnitzel), this one is made with Ibérico pork tenderloin, Ibérico de Bellota jamón and manchego cheese and is a decadent cross between an actual San Jacobo and a Cachopo. Also, it’s enormous, so excellent value at 14.90€ (served with grilled veg and fried potatoes topped with cuminy mozárabe sauce). In fact it was so huge that we ended up taking half of it home. On other visits we tried fish and seafood dishes – all good.

There are only a few tapas on the menu, most are half or full raciones so go hungry or bring friends to share with.
