Founded by Manolo Anaya in 1959 this curiously named bar is now run by grand nephew Pedro Anaya and his wife (and chef) Lidia Avila. I have known about this place forever, or at least since I first moved here in 1993, but somehow had never stopped in to visit until recently. And it was lovely.

I was surprised to find that the small classic bar area opened onto three interior dining areas, including a pretty tiled patio with a glass ceiling. Everywhere the walls are covered in Semana Santa and Spring Festival posters. We tried their famous monticao de solomillo al whisky and a few other dishes. The pavía de bacalao was also very good. Staff are friendly and helpful.
