A macareno is a neighbour from the Macarena barrio, and you don’t get much more macareno than opening a bar in an old ultramarinos in the Plaza Pumarejo, fast becoming Sevilla’s newest hip part of town. Owner José Manuel Leirós (aka Jota), who also runs Lola por Dios, Quesería Vuelve Carmina and fusiony La Chalá, has partnered up with film producer Manuel Díaz on this project. They have taken care to restore the premises in the tradition of classic Sevillano bars with long wooden bars and hand-painted tiles throughout.

Inside you’ll find a bright well-lit bar area with a couple of smaller dining rooms at the back, and tables outside on the sidewalk and in the square.

The menu also respects the history of these old traditional bars. There’s an excellent selection of charcuterie and cheeses, cold and hot dishes, seafood and daily stews. The wine list features regional wines, including sherry wines and vermouth. Service is casual and friendly. A great addition to the neighbourhood.
