Fromages de Fermiers

Updated July 2023

Just a stone’s throw from Plaza Salvador you can visit – and taste – France. Fromages de Fermiers is a charming bar and cheese shop with a cosy side walk terrace in a pedestrianised street. Inside the décor is minimalist with tall tables, a long counter top with glass showcases, and lots of wooden shelves, all stocked full of not only cheeses but charcuterie, jams, breads and biscuits, and a wonderful selection of wines.

Worth noting is the presentation of each “snack”. The comté cheese came with walnuts, beetroot crisps and different toasted breads. Tiny French sausages (one made with walnuts, the other with parmesan) were served with toasted garlicky bread sticks and “piccolines”.  The little bocaditos are a must haves (smoked sardine with brie and sun dried tomato, duck breast with gorganzola and guindillas…), as is their smoked black Angus pastrami on focaccio and house made pâté. And during the winter ask for the fondu.

Run by Lucas, his wife Lola and their son (also Lucas) this is one of those family run places that you always dream of finding. Not just for the special and attentive personal service but oh my god those gorgeous cheeses. Many are aged and “refined” on the premises, with the addition of oils, liquors or wines that give them a unique flavour. And everything can also be ordered to takeaway, including their delicious flavoured bread sticks and picos.

Tastings are now also available. Get in touch with Lucas to find about upcoming events.
