La Quinta

Updated February 2022

La Quinta is a restaurant specialising in char-grilled meats and fish, though there is a small selection of tapas on the menu. The building, a beautifully restored casa palacio, is quite impressive, with a number of dining rooms arranged around a central patio, on two floors (even the bathrooms are beautiful!). I prefer the side area downstairs, where the bar, including a kitchen area with one of those big circular wood-burning pizza ovens, leads through to an lovely outside courtyard for al fresco dining. Alongside, the corner room has an open fireplace (complete with fire, at least during the winter), and has a lovely cosy feel to it.

On the menu you’ll find salads and other cold dishes, fish and meat tartars, as well as cooked fish dishes. But the house speciality is their BBQ meats, featuring aged Galician beef and Cinco Jotas Bellota pork cuts, which you can have on their own or with a selection of sauces, served with either salad, chunky chips or roasted potatoes. Over several visits we’ve enjoyed a tapa of chistorras followed by full portions of grilled octopus and pluma Ibérica (pork shoulder), all of which were excellent. The sous vide secreto Ibérico, laquered and finished on the bbq is sublime and we also loved the beef tenderloin with Café de Paris sauce, with a little bbq brought to the table so we could finish it to our liking. Be sure to ask about the daily specials.

There are also seasonal specials, such as grilled calçots served with romesco sauce, offered between December and March. This you can order a la carte or opt for the set menu which includes a roof tile filled with newspaper-wrapped charred calçots and nutty romesco sauce for dipping, grilled white and black butifarra with creamy butter beans, a selection of grilled meats with chunky potatoes, desserts and a bottle of house wine.

Chef Gonzalo Villalba Olivella and maître Albert Granados – and their excellent team – ensure an exceptional dining experience.
