O’Neill’s Arenal

I was very pleased to see that a shiny new O’Neill’s had recently opened on the corner of Adriano and Paseo de Colón (at the end of “gastrobar row”). Inside the bar area is divided into two sections and combines typical Irish Pub decor with warm terracotta walls and Andalusian floor tiles, creating comfortable and welcoming spaces throughout. My favourite is the three-sided window nook with leather sofas. Outside there is a large sidewalk terrace with that runs along the Adriano side of the building and a smaller “stand up” terrace section out front, facing the river. Typically there are big flatscreens set up for watching sports events, which are announced on the O’Neill’s website.

If you want decent pub grub and a perfectly poured Guiness, or a nice glass of wine with bar snacks, then this is the place. My friends and I enjoyed our pub lunch (with Irish coffees for “dessert”). Our only complaint was that the “nachos” with guacamole at 4.50€ seemed a bit pricey, but the burgers, sandwiches and fish & chips were all very good and also good value. Given its location, I think it will be equally popular with locals and visitors, the former wanting a change from tapas, the latter looking for somewhere familiar where they can speak English. Both will get a very warm welcome and enjoy excellent service.

The all-day kitchen opens for breakfast at 9.00 and the bar menu is available 1.00 – midnight.
