I really wanted to like Macuro because it’s actually a very cute bar with great bohemian eclectic decor, and the food isn’t too bad either. But after having tried it a couple of times I am left feeling underwhelmed and overcharged. I don’t see how a paper placemat and a small basket with three slices of bread and a handful of picos warrants a 1 euro per person “cubierto” charge. I was also put off by the 8% IVA not being included in the menu prices (is that even allowed?). And so after trying several mediocre starter dishes I didn’t feel inspired to spend 4 euros (plus IVA) for a mushroom risotto tapa or 17.80 euros (plus IVA) for a plate of pork tenderloin with truffle parmentier. If they can’t get the basics right, and insist on extra charges, then I doubt I’ll be back.
