Updated August 2017

The opening of Luzanda, back in 2014, was a very welcome addition to the Plaza Alfalfa. The menu started off as Spanish-Portuguese fusion, and there is still a nod to Portgual, though it seems to have settled into offering local cuisine and seasonal ingredients. Mostly serving full and half raciones, though a few tapas are also available, you certainly get value for money here. Service is friendly but can be a bit slow, so don’t stop by if you’re in a hurry. The décor is simple with pale grey walls, matte silver hanging lamps and nice wooden tables, and you can find changing exhibits by local artists. There is also a pleasant sidewalk terrace.

What I can’t understand is why this place isn’t constantly packed out. Indeed the only unexceptional dish I’ve tried here is the ensaladilla, never a personal favourite but made even less appealing with the addition of gulas (fake baby eels). But everything else I’ve had here has been excellent, with recent favourites being the pork in panko and grilled presa Ibérica. Be sure to look out for seasonal items – in fact the menu changes twice a year so perhaps some of what you see here won’t still be available, but they are sure to have something equally delicious.
