Bar Campanario

Honestly and truly the very best sangría and gaspacho I’ve ever had in Sevilla. The first night I arrived in Sevilla from Salalmanca (September 1993) with a car-load of all my stuff, including cats, I ended up waiting outside my new apartment building for three hours before the landlord showed up. The apartment building was directly across the street from Bar Campanario. First meetings often mean so much - in this case I was stuck in my car with two tired and screaming cats, and the very friendly bar staff kept bringing me wine …

It became my home away from home, and their pleasant street terrace was my ‘reading room’ where I would sit out in the evenings with my book and always have company if I felt like it. A year or so later I moved down the street to a bigger apartment and had less need to go out every evening. But it still remains ‘my local’ and one of my favourite bars in Sevilla.
