about me
I always felt like a foreigner from the beginning of life so when I actually became one, I felt more at home. ~ Tim Burton
Born in Canada by mistake, I’ve been living in Seville, Spain since September 1993. Previously I have lived in Winnipeg, Toronto, Bristol and Salamanca (in that order).
In May 2006 I started casa az – it was my first ever blog and was created as a general interest, as well as personal interest, “blogazine” type of place.
Then came Sevilla Tapas, my personal collection of the best tapas bars & restaurants in Seville, which started quite by chance in April 2007 when I was out for lunch with a friend. It was such a beautiful spring day that I took a few photos of the square where we were sitting. For a laugh I also took photos of our lunch to show friends on my casa az blog. The response was so positive that I started publishing regular “lunch posts”, which eventually led to starting this separate website for Sevilla Tapas and the “azahar’s Sevilla” blog.
In January 2010 I created the “all about Sevilla” forum so that visitors and locals alike could ask questions and share opinions & experiences about such things as accommodation, transportation, things to see & do, and – of course – tapas!
Posts here will include topics such as culture, travel, accomodation, “alternatours”, cooking classes, tapas, restaurants, wines, flamenco, books & films, and places of interest.
Comments and queries are most welcome. Please feel free to leave suggestions for any post or page content that you would be interested in seeing here.
Because basically, it’s all about Sevilla.

Hi Azahar
Just a note that the Azotea opening hours are now different to what’s on your site…they are Tues – Sat 1.30-4.30 pm, and 8.30pm till whenever, Sunday 1.30-4.30 pm, and closed Monday. (Had a great Sunday lunch there yesterday)
Thanks for the heads up, Ted! I did actually hear aobut the new schedule the other day but haven’t had time to update the Sevilla Tapas blog yet. There are a few opening hour changes I have to make… just need a few more hours in the day.
So how many times did you end up eating there??
Hi Azahar,
My husband and I just moved from Texas. Do you do any types of tours? We don’t know anybody and our Spanish is limited.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Nicole
Hi Nicole – welcome to Sevilla!
Yes, I do tapas tours – you can find info about them here:
http://azahar-sevilla.com/tapas-tours/
And my friend & flatmate Peter Tatford does a nice walking tour that would be a nice introduction to Sevilla:

What part of town do you live in?
Hi Azahar!
We recently launched a new Restaurant and Dining Guide in Sevilla. We feature nearly 100 Restaurants, providing everything from menus, photos, and hours of operation, to contact info, descriptions, and maps. At the same time, we offer incredible discounts and gift certificates. For example, a customer can obtain a 15€ gift certificate for 5€. That´s 10€, totally free. Its a new project we´ve created to help everyone out during this economic crisis. I think your followers would really appreciate our service. If you could post our link on your site, we would really appreciate it. Thanks for your support and consideration on the matter. If you need more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thanks so much!
Justin
Thanks Justin, but I already offer a tapas guide that isn’t commercially driven. Also, I notice you are using one of my photos on your site (Taberna Berrocal).
My guide – Sevilla Tapas – is based on my personal experience and the main critieria for a tapas bar being there is “would I recommend this place to a friend?”. You may notice that most of the bars on your list aren’t on mine. But different strokes for different folks…
Hey! I didn´t realize you had responded to this comment. I think one of my colleagues has been trying to contact you as well. I totally understand where you’re coming from and I wish you all the best with your site. Hope to maybe meet you sometime in the future! Un abrazo
Hi Azahar, I moved to Sevilla from Sydney a few months ago and I’ve just discovered your delightful blog. I’m also loving the blogs of some of your friends – the Scribbler, etc – thanks for the links. I’m (slightly desperately) hoping you can assist with a growing challenge: I REALLY NEED a REALLY GOOD cup of coffee. I’d welcome any recommendations on cafes in the centro.
I like to think I’m a creative person, but there’s only so much I can do with a stove pot & a bucket of Illy…. thanks in advance, Gina
Hi Gina, and welcome!
For me the very best coffee in town is at the Horno San Buenaventura. It’s the only place I know that uses fresh milk (rather than that UHT crap) and it makes all the difference. There are three in the centre: Avda de la Constitución, Plaza Alfalfa and in calle Carlos Cañal.
Drop me an email if I can help with any other info.
BRILLIANT! Thank you, I’m off there this afternoon to get my fix.
Actually – I have been thinking of posting a message to you and Nicole from Texas. I’m quite familiar with the city haunts (was here a couple of months last year to put my toe in the water, then back with newly aquired visa), but always up for a tapas tour with an expert foodie! However, I’m really keen to meet other people who have moved to/are living in Sevilla. I have another foodie friend from Manchester who is keen, so perhaps you could keep us in mind, and if fortune smiles, we’d be happy to join and make a group? Gina

I would like to show you a great village of Seville that is sure you will like. Pictures and places for tapas. It’s called Tocina y Los Rosales (Sevilla). Welcome. Thank you…
Thank you for the wonderful website. Found your site while I was researching things to do in Seville. You provide a lot of great ideas.
My girlfriend & I are visiting Spain in Oct/2012. We are spending 6 days in Madrid & 2 weeks in Seville. We booked an apartment in the Santa Cruz area so this will give us time to enjoy the city. We want to take your Tapas Tour it sounds like a lot of fun & the walking tour led by Peter will help us get familiar with Seville .
We run a travel blog while we are away to keep in touch with our family & friends. http://twogrannystravels.blogspot.com
I’ve also enjoy reading Scribbler in Seville. She has a great sense of humour. Thank you again & congratulations on your good news.
Stay healthy & see you in October.
